Introduction

SaunaMind is the first app that tracks what actually matters in a sauna: your heat adaptation. Instead of watching the clock, SaunaMind guides optimal heat exposure in real time and maps it to five science-backed benefit zones.

The result: you know exactly when your body enters the zones where cardiovascular benefits, heat shock protein activation, and deep hormesis occur — backed by peer-reviewed research from Laukkanen, Jay & Kenny, and others.

Download & Sign Up

Download SaunaMind from the App Store and create your account with email and password.

Choose Your Sauna Type

Select your primary sauna: Traditional/Finnish, Infrared, or Steam. This calibrates the temperature model — infrared heats tissue differently than convective heat, so the type matters.

Set Your Goals

Tell us what you're after — cardiovascular health, recovery, longevity, stress relief, or general wellness. This helps the AI coach personalise recommendations.

Connect a Heart Rate Monitor (Optional)

For the most accurate eCBT readings, pair a Bluetooth heart rate strap (Polar, Wahoo, Garmin, CooSpo, or any standard HR monitor). Without one, SaunaMind uses a time-based estimation model.

How SaunaMind Works

Estimated Core Body Temperature (eCBT)

Your thermal adaptation response is the key metric. SaunaMind estimates it using a peer-reviewed formula:

When a heart rate monitor is connected, this formula provides real-time eCBT based on your actual physiological response. Without an HR monitor, a time-based model estimates your temperature using sauna type and room temperature.

Why Not Just Use a Timer?

Two people in the same sauna for the same duration adapt at completely different rates. Fitness level, hydration, acclimatisation, and body composition all affect your heat response. SaunaMind measures you, not the clock.

Tracking Sessions

Starting a Session

Open the Session tab and tap Start. SaunaMind supports three session phases:

  • Training — Pre-sauna exercise. Tracks heart rate and exercise zones.
  • Sauna — The main event. Tracks eCBT and benefit zones in real time.
  • Cold Plunge — Post-sauna cold exposure. Tracks HR recovery.

You can use any combination of these phases in a single session.

During Your Session

The main screen shows your current eCBT, active zone, heart rate, and elapsed time. The zone bar fills as you progress through each threshold. If you leave the app, your session continues in the background and picks up where you left off.

Session History

Every session is saved automatically. The History tab shows all past sessions with filters for sauna, cold plunge, contrast (sauna + cold), and training sessions. Tap any session for a detailed view including your temperature curve and zone transitions.

Understanding Zones

SaunaMind maps your eCBT to five physiological benefit zones, each backed by published research:

Warm-Up 37.0 – 37.5°C

Vasodilation begins. Blood flow increases to the skin and cardiovascular system warms up.

Heat Adaptation 37.5 – 38.0°C

Plasma volume expands. Sweating peaks and your body builds heat tolerance.

HSP Activation 38.0 – 38.5°C

Heat shock proteins deploy for cellular repair and protection. This is where measurable benefits begin.

Deep Hormesis 38.5 – 39.0°C

Strong HSP70 induction, FOXO3 activation, and autophagy. Growth hormone surges and longevity markers peak.

Caution ≥ 39.0°C

Benefits plateau and heat risk rises. Exit the sauna and begin cooling down.

Heart Rate Monitors

Supported Devices

SaunaMind works with any Bluetooth Low Energy heart rate monitor that uses the standard Heart Rate Service. Tested and verified devices include:

  • Polar H10, H9, OH1, Verity Sense
  • Wahoo TICKR, TICKR X, TICKR FIT
  • Garmin HRM-Pro, HRM-Dual
  • CooSpo H808S, H6
  • Magene H303, H64
  • Scosche Rhythm+, Rhythm24

Connecting Your Monitor

Wet the sensor pads, put on your strap, then open SaunaMind. The app scans for nearby HR monitors automatically. Tap your device in the list to connect. Once paired, it reconnects automatically in future sessions.

Oura Ring

Connect your Oura Ring via the Profile tab for daily readiness metrics, sleep data, and HRV tracking. Oura session HR data is also used to backfill heart rate for sessions where a BLE strap wasn't available.

What's Included

SaunaMind offers a Pro subscription that unlocks the full experience:

  • Unlimited session tracking with full zone analysis
  • AI Coach — personalised advice powered by GPT-4o
  • Advanced session history and trend analysis
  • Wearable integrations (Oura, Garmin, Whoop)
  • PDF session reports

Subscriptions are managed through the App Store. You can cancel or change your plan at any time in your iPhone's Settings > Subscriptions.

Troubleshooting

My heart rate monitor won't connect
Make sure the strap sensor pads are wet, Bluetooth is enabled on your iPhone, and no other app is connected to the monitor. Restart the monitor by removing and re-attaching it, then try again.
My zone estimate seems too low
Without a heart rate monitor, the time-based model may underestimate your response, especially if you're well-acclimatised. Connecting an HR strap gives the most accurate readings. Also check that your sauna type is set correctly in your profile.
My session disappeared after closing the app
Sessions persist in the background. If you reopen the app, you should see a banner to resume your active session. Make sure Background App Refresh is enabled in your iPhone Settings for SaunaMind.
The AI Coach isn't responding
The AI Coach requires an internet connection. Check your connectivity and try again. If the issue persists, close and reopen the app.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Go to iPhone Settings > your name > Subscriptions > SaunaMind. You can cancel or change your plan there. Your access continues until the end of the current billing period.
