Getting Started

What does SaunaMind estimate?+
SaunaMind provides wellness estimates such as Sauna Load, heat zones, cold recovery, training zones, hydration context, and readiness. These estimates use available heart-rate and session data. They are not medical measurements.
Why track heart-rate context instead of time only?+
Two people in the same sauna for the same duration can show very different heart-rate responses. Time alone is limited. SaunaMind uses heart-rate and session context to estimate heat-session effort; it does not confirm that any specific biological outcome has activated.
How long should I spend in each zone?+
SaunaMind does not prescribe a dose. It shows wellness context and lets you decide. Individual responses vary with acclimatisation, hydration, caffeine, recent exercise, age, medication, and health status. Start conservatively and let your body be the guide. This is general wellness information; consult your doctor for personal health guidance.

The Science

What's the difference between the heat zones?+
Warm-Up means early heat effort. Building means effort is rising. Sustained means steady heat effort. Peak means high heat effort. Cool Down means back off if you feel dizzy, nauseous, faint, or unwell. These are wellness zones, not clinical measurements or confirmation of cellular changes.
Is sauna safe for everyone?+
Most people tolerate sauna well, but some should consult a doctor first, including pregnant women, children, people on cardiovascular medications, people with uncontrolled hypertension, recent heart surgery, fever, or any pre-existing medical condition. Stay hydrated and listen to your body.
How often should I use a sauna?+
Frequency preferences vary widely. Research describes varying patterns of use, but individual tolerance depends on fitness, health status, acclimatisation, and hydration. A common approach is to start conservatively and adjust based on how you feel. This is general wellness information, not medical advice.

Cold Exposure

How does SaunaMind track cold plunges?+
Cold sessions are mapped to a three-phase model using available heart-rate context. Entry Shock covers the early cold response. Adaptation covers the middle of the exposure. Recovery shows how far heart rate has moved back toward resting after exit.
What is RMSSD and why does SaunaMind show it during cold recovery?+
RMSSD is a heart-rate variability metric: the root mean square of successive differences between heartbeats. SaunaMind can show RMSSD during cold recovery when compatible beat-to-beat data is available. In SaunaMind, it is a wellness estimate, not a clinical HRV assessment.

Technical

Is my data secure?+
SaunaMind uses TLS in transit and at-rest encryption via Supabase. Health and wellness data is never sold or used for advertising. See the Privacy Policy for the full sub-processor list and your rights.
How does SaunaMind calculate Sauna Load?+
Sauna Load is a proprietary 0-100 wellness score based on available heart-rate effort and time in heat zones. It is an abstract session score, not a clinical measurement. Heart-rate responses vary, so the score should be treated as context.

Troubleshooting

My zone estimate seems off. Why?+
Hydration, caffeine, recent exercise, alcohol, medication, and acclimatisation can all shift your heart-rate response to heat. Your resting HR setting in the profile also matters. Update your resting HR and try again. If estimates still look wrong, contact support.
I'm not seeing zone transitions. Is the app broken?+
If you are new to sauna, it may take several sessions before higher effort zones appear. Start conservatively, check your strap fit, and confirm your sauna type and resting heart rate are set correctly.
